Fuerteventura due for a profitable 2010

Initial figures show that Fuerteventura has seen the largest increase in flight reservations across the whole of the Canary Islands. A major contributing factor is undoubtedly the return of Ryanair to Fuerteventurian skies for the first time in 18 months, but these results are also boosted by the continued low cost services from Aer Lingus, Monarch and Easyjet.

The Councillor of Tourism for Fuerteventura, Agueda Montelongo who last year was quoted as stating “there is no tourism crisis”, greeted this month´s news with the comments,” good news for the tourism sector of Fuerteventura…we are dealing with estimates that are consistent with the expectations of economic recovery we´ve been seeing in recent months.”

The news of a healthy forthcoming summer season will naturally boost all tourism related businesses on the island, as well as the real estate sector and 2nd home property market. The also illustrates that the Tourism for Fuerteventura strategy of attracting fresh emerging markets to the island whilst continuing to attract visitors from longstanding European destinations is paying dividends.

Great Britain leads the way with a flight bookings increase of 68% for the summer, Germany enjoys and increase of 24% and mainland Spain has also seen a 4% rise in bookings.

In total the island should enjoy an increase of 30% on flight bookings in comparison to last year, thus demonstrating a level of economic stabilistation following a traumatic 18 months.

Ryanair announces new flights from Prestwick to Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

Ryanair has announced extra flights to its sunshine routes from Prestwick and a new route to Fuerteventura starting next month.Chief executive for Prestwick airport, Iain Cochrane said: “This is more excellent news for the airport. As well as these welcome extras, we have new Ryanair routes starting to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands and Ibiza next month, plus summer flights to Jersey and Turkey with other airlines.”

This is yet more good news for the tourist industry on Fuerteventura and for property owners looking for more connections back to the UK. It will also help the real estate market on the island by providing more connections between Fuerteventura and the UK which is an important consideration for potential purchasers.

The extra flights from Prestwick will go to Malaga, Alicante, Palma, Faro and Carcassonne.

New Flights to Fuerteventura

Much was made of Ryan Airs decision to call a halt to flights to the island and it is still unknown whether this halt will be permanent or not! But of course when one airline decides the time to cut back and lose flights is now…other airlines see this as an opportunity to expand and take advantage of the situation.

Flight operator “Kiss” will be starting a new service to Fuerteventura from Manchester and Gatwick in April this year. The airline announced that the weekly “flight only” service will operate on Wednesdays. For more information visit http://www.kissflights.com/

Jet2 have been adding new destinations and talks are rumoured to be ongoing to open a service from the UK to the island. As the saying goes watch this space http://www.jet2.com/

Easyjet of course are still a low cost airline operating a regular service between the Fuerteventura and the UK albeit via Madrid. Seats can be found for as little as 60 Euros on the 5 flights a week service. Visit for information http://www.easyjet.com/

We also found flights for under 130 Euros using the Spanish national carrier Iberia between London and Fuerteventura again via Madrid. See http://www.iberia.com/

With Thompsons, Thomas Cook and My Travel operating their usual regular service, cheap seats can always be found and travelling between the UK and the island is never difficult. Also remember that regular flights from the UK and Ireland land in Arricife so a short bus journey and ferry crossing will get you to Corralejo. http://www.navieraarmas.com/
