Spanish national airline Iberia launched on Sunday 26th March a new low-cost airline.
The new airline, Iberia Express, commenced operations and with prices starting at €25 for a one-way ticket make it very competitive with other low cost carries such as Ryanair.
Iberia Express will cover Spanish cities including Madrid, Barcelona and the Islands such as Ibiza, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
The launch of Iberia Express follows the recent collapse of Spain's fourth-largest airline Spanair.
The low-cost Iberia Express has currently 500 staff and has a fleet of four Airbus A320 aircraft, according to Iberia Express chief executive Luis Gallego who also stated also it is their intention to expand both personnel and aircraft later in 2012 .
"The containment of costs will enable Iberia Express to grow and compete with the other low-cost operators such as Ryanair and Easyjet," he said.
International Airlines Group is the ultimate parent, which was formed by the merger of Iberia and British Airways in 2011.
