An Expats Life is a Happy One
A recent survey conducted by Nat West, discovered that almost all questioned confirmed that they have no regrets about emigrating to a sunnier climate. Approximately three quarters said that they do feel a little homesick some of the time and, without stating the obvious, the thing they missed the most was their family and friends, but with the UK being only a 4 hour flight away, most people get to visit or receive visitor regularly.
In places such as Fuerteventura, expats have a fairly easy time of it. There is a large and established expatriate community on the island which means that it is fairly easy to get hold of essential elements of British life such as East Enders, Football and Heinz Baked Beans! For those who have chosen to plump for the likes of Bulgaria or Turkey, they often find they have to make do with what’s on offer locally. Fuerteventura itself is not yet as well developed as other longer established expat communities on the Spanish Costas or other Canary islands but as a result many Fuerteventura residents have a greater level of independence and much higher integration with the local community.
The fact remains, though, that it is the younger expats who are more willing to jump feet first into the unknown. The more mature expat takes slightly longer to make the right decision!
