The Aida Bella is the largest of the luxury cruise ships that will visit the island this season. Last year 41,000 cruise passengers passed through the harbour and with the inauguration of the new berth this figure is set to rise by around 13% according to estimates by the Tourist Office.
Agueda Montelongo, Councillor for Tourism, stated it was the intention of the port to achieve “Base Port Status” meaning that cruises would start and end in the port so hopefully increasing the number of overnight visitors.
